History

Before the Partition of India, there were many brick kilns in this area. Kilns are called Bhattas in Urdu and Punjabi languages. Many trenches were created as a result of digging of land for obtaining mud that was used for making bricks. Therefore this place was referred to as "Trenches of Bhattaas" by the British, which was distorted and modified to Tench Bhatta by the locals.


It is situated 1.5 kilometers to the south of Mall Road, Saddar, Rawalpindi.


It has a population of 200,000 which includes a majority of Punjabis/Pothoharis and a minority of Urdu speaking MohajirsKashmiris and Pathans.
 
Its been a long time since the British left the Ind o Pak subcontinent but still there are dozens of old buildings which were built at that time.Those includes Sacred Mosques, old style built houses, narrow streets, grounds, graveyards.and some shops.
In this modern time, those buildings give a fantastic look.
An old mosque which was built in 1950 and a house of well known family was built in 1935 Estd.
